The fall show of Omaha Fashion Week witnessed an abundance of style and fashion on the runway, with some being enthusiastic as a floral wedding dress with hand-crafted flower petals and others being rather wacky as an African-themed plaster tops line. The fashion event had featured over 30 renowned designers and came to its climax on August 23rd. The finale showcase included a replay of 12 influential designers from the fashion week fighting for the prestigious Fashion Cup, a title for the best designer of the week.

The coveted 2014 Fashion Cup was claimed by Whitney Rorah, who is a May graduate of Iowa State University. The line by Rorah, presented during the bridal and kids wear showcase on first night, was among the highest praised in the Omaha Fashion Week. Her bridal collection concluded with a stunning white wedding dress which was a flowery spectacle with 4 layers of blue, purple, pink and white hand-crafted flower petals. Whitney Rorah crafted the petals from fabric and each petal was put on top a candle to get the curled edge look, which took around 45 hours.

Her work was even admired by selection panelists David Scott and Rick Carey. Scott said “She is perfection...She should be in New York right now.” According to Scott, Rorah represented what the selection panel looks for in the finalists, rising designers with solid collections which “jump off the rack” and demonstrate technical skill. Scott added, “We’re looking for that creative edge and that next designer that can be discovered.”

Another designer who became a crowd favourite at the Omaha Fashion Week was 17 year old Kate Walz. Her line which was shown in the evening wear showcase was highly appreciated by many who believe she has a promising future ahead. The metallic half-sleeve gloves and a gown with a portrait of the late designer Jessica Latham and folds of fabric presented by Walz won over the panellists and the crowd.

He presented a special collection during the finale from his showroom in Los Angeles and also unveiled a new line in the avant-garde show.
Other prominent designers who wowed the audience at the OFW included Luis Alvarez and Angela Balderston. Alvarez presented ballerina dancers with architectural hairstyles including pieces like makeup brushes and jigsaw puzzles. Balderston showed the Get Plastered line that had African-themed body paint, headdresses with wild feather and foliage as well as plaster tops.
